Welcome to San Antonio with Mayor Ivy Taylor 2016

Here’s the brand new version of the Welcome to San Antonio video! This is shown to the more than 8 million peeps that pass by San Antonio International Airport every year! Yikes! That’s a lot of peeps!

A TON of work went into the post-production and production in getting all the different and cool shots all over town. From all the different events and places, it’s a lot of fun revisiting and updating a video that has a massive impact to the City of San Antonio. One key member of the Mayor’s team said it was a “Masterpiece”.

What we try and do, is bottle the tremendous energy of San Antonio into one video that’ll inspire people to really visit these super cool places and events and have a great outlook on what San Antonio really means.

Much thanks to the Aviation Department and the Mayor’s Office in trusting us. Special thanks to Bobby Salluce and Cat Velez for organizing everything.

SA Tomorrow

This was one of the most rewarding video experiences of my life. It is the main reason I make these kinds of projects in the first place.
SA Tomorrow is one of the most ambitious programs that the City of San Antonio has ever embarked on, because they are making a comprehensive plan in order to prepare for the year 2040. By that time, more than 1 million people will be living in San Antonio and the City needs to be ready for this growth.

In making videos like this, I feel like I get to be a part of something really good, of building instead of destroying, contributing to the betterment of the world.

I really appreciate the City of San Antonio’s Planning Dept. in trusting me and Digital Work Studios with this enormous project.
Thanks to John Dugan, Rudy Niño, Micah Diaz & Larry Schooler.

Very special thanks to my talented friends and passionate citizens of San Antonio that helped me get this done:

  • Randy Escamilla who is the brilliant voice behind this video
  • Michael Cortez, Mi Tierra
  • Chacho Saldaña, Musician
  • Lukas & Niko Saldaña
  • Ricardo Romo, UTSA
  • Diana Cisneros, UTSA and my lovely sister 🙂
  • Graham Weston, Rackspace
  • Yonnie Blanchette, Carver Community Cultural Center
  • Laurie Ann Guerrero, San Antonio Poet Laureate

This video was launched on April 11, 2015 at the big kick-off event where Mayor Ivy Taylor, Deputy City Manager Peter Zanoni and many great citizens were on hand to launch this very important event.

Patricia Vonne: Behind The Scenes

Mi amiga singer/songwriter Patricia Vonne needed a “behind the scenes” video in her marketing arsenal and needed it quick for her 2015 European tour. Thankfully, we made it happen and this vibrant & music-filled video is the result. Her new album (5th!) Rattle my Cage is out so make sure to catch her show when in the area. Info here: patriciavonne.com

Fun trivia:

  • Her song “Soledad” is included in our independent film El Escape De Los Santos (2006).
  • Me (Ricky Mendoza) and Paco Flores produced Patricia’s video Missing Women. Watch it here!

This video was filmed and edited throughout March-May 2015 and released April 20, 2015.

Welcome to San Antonio with Mayor Ivy Taylor

This video is mainly displayed at the San Antonio International Airport where more than 8 million people pass by there every year… Thanks to the Aviation Department and the Mayor’s Office in trusting Digital Work Studios.

Special thanks to Bobby Salluce and Cat Velez for organizing everything.

After School All Stars 2015

The story of how the Greater San Antonio After School All Stars program is making a difference in San Antonio.

Afterschool All Stars is a national program founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger and its San Antonio chapter is championed by Jane Macon and Dr. Patricia Karam.

While making this video what really struck me is how grateful the kiddos and the parents were with this program…

Special thanks to Dr. Patricia Karam, Jennifer Thomas and Jane Macon for trusting us with this very important project.

And below is the video for the 2015 honorees that made an outstanding difference in the community:

COOLORINO Trailer

This is an awesome trailer I made for the game COOLORINO.

It is awesome because I needed to break the pattern of what EVERY game trailer does. They are mostly boring showing you how to play, but there’s absolutely no excitement (which is what the game is supposed to do, excite!). Since you really can’t get a feel for the EXCITEMENT of the game just by watching it, I decided to go with some really cool and snazzy graphics that tell the story, ignite feelings of curiosity, and to get a glimpse of what the game stands for.

This game is a lot of fun, here are the links:

San Antonio Solid Waste Recycle Demo with Stop Motion LEGO’s

This is an oldie but goodie!

Back in 2010, the SA Waste Management Dept. wanted to experiment with some animation in a PSA, so I suggested a stop-motion animation PSA. They had no idea what I was talking about so I made up a demo that afternoon with the help of my trusty son, Ricky. At the time he was totally immersed in the LEGO world so it was a great father-son project.

It was done with a combination of photo and video cams, avid and after effects for the speaking parts and graphics.

Sadly, they didn’t go with my idea and the project was never realized… but the demo and the positive recycling message lives on in the internet!

Healthier Me Challenge – San Antonio

This was a really emotional video to make. I’ve had to make some tough diet changes in my life and I felt the desperation and the anxiety that these folks were having.

Seeing them make the change to healthy living was very gratifying to me. The challenge on this one was to portray the journey and show all the angst and the struggle. Their attitude is simply inspiring. Inspired me to do better in my life, that’s for sure…
